I started looking for a career change idea on-line. I had become a bit bored by my job and felt stuck in a career rut. Being fed up at work was also having quite a negative impact on my social and home life. I started to lose interest in my hobbies and I stopped arranging to meet up with my friends as my work worries took over my life. I soon realised that my job was making me feel miserable and I had to start looking for a career change idea before I became overwhelmed by the situation.
I started to think about what I would like to be doing as a career. My thoughts flicked to what I had wanted to be when I was younger. I felt sad that I had ended up in such a dull and boring job. I knew that it was time to take action and to try something new. The question I kept asking myself was, ‘what career could I do now?’ I was slightly worried that I may have to start all over again or go back to college to retrain. I didn’t really want to do that as I needed to earn a good income.
A friend of mine who works in Human Resources recommended that I fill in an on-line career profile. A career profile is a non-critical behavioural analysis which provides suitable career suggestions for the individual’s personality type. I found it a really helpful exercise to complete as I discovered that I could easily transfer my skills and work a new career sector. I was relieved that it was not necessary for me to retrain or start a new career afresh.
In fact, the career profile gave me a huge to boost in confidence as it highlighted that I did in fact have many more career options than I at first realised.
